In Regards to the Song, "Pearl of a Girl", with "I Wish the Virgin Would've Had an Abortion" Lyrics.8/8/2014 ![]() A while ago, I had thoughts on the song, "Pearl of a Girl" by Kristeen Young, that included the lyrics, “I wish the virgin would’ve had an abortion.” I finally decided to write about it. Why? Because it's about someone who I dearly love, and someone who dearly loves me. This is about someone who protected my life, forgave me when I chose to spend time with fleeting pleasures other than His blessing for me, someone who didn't give up on me, and someone who has blessed me beyond what I deserve. This song is a lie about someone who I have the closest relationship with: Jesus. One: Jesus set us free from the law that existed before He was even born. The law in which the Pharisees abused in how they oppressed people with it...they even oppressed Jesus with it. They were always trying to catch Him. They even tested Jesus with scripture that they took out of context, and Jesus would refute their wrongful outlooks and intentions with scripture in its proper context. (You may like to view a blog that has a short blurb on my outlook of situations where people are hurt by Christians in ways God did not intend). Two: What about the talk of people asking if Mary would've aborted if she knew about abortion? She consented; it wasn't an unexpected pregnancy or rape (where I don't believe it's acceptable anyway, as most of you know). It seems people have God confused with mythical god, Zeus. It was Zeus who raped. In the Bible, Luke 1:38 says: "Mary said, 'I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!' Then the angel went away." Mary wanted to give birth to this awesome King. Not only that, but if people reviewed actual history, those who didn't want babies and children to live, they did the same as abortion clinics do, they killed the babies after being born. It was hard to see people talking like this; they might as well have been asking if Mother Theresa would've been the person to perform the abortion. That's how ridiculous it is. There is definitely a balance, and it comes down to our relationship with God. There are extreme realms that are incorrect, and are not how God intended it: the realm of those who abuse grace and teach it flippantly (thinking we can do whatever we want because of grace), and those who practically teach as though grace is not real through their legalistic teachings, like the Pharisees (if you aren't perfect and don't do this, and if you don't do that, you aren't a Christian and/or you are going to hell). God calls us to not be lukewarm Christians. He hates that. But, God is also a God of love, grace, and forgiveness. He understands us more than anyone, even ourselves. Even when I look back on my life, I see how I didn't know about myself as much as I thought I did, and I see how God's hand in my life was definitely Him knowing more about me than my own self. God doesn't want us to do what we do out of a puppetry act, He wants a relationship. He cares. He loves. He is not the "god" that the world tries to portray. Not even close. I wrote this blog because this widespread song didn't even make sense, and I did not appreciate the death-wish it portrayed on someone (especially, in their innocent, infant stage) who grew up and lived to die for me (and for her). However, it is my challenge to Christians to continuously evaluate their heart, actions, and motives, to make sure they are portraying Christ in a way that other people would not have misunderstandings and preconceived lies such as these. It's a challenge that I work on as well. We are never perfect, we never arrive, but we can at least strive, and love as Christ would love. Note: those of you who don't quite feel you fit into my last paragraph, and more so feel like the ones who have been hurt by Christians, here is the link I listed mid-article. In case you skipped over it. :)
